DIEGETIC SOUNDS ♡

Inspired by the intro of the Can't Catch Me Now music video, I added a layer of diegetic ambience to ground the visuals in a more tangible, immersive environment. Here is the sound I used from YouTube.

I decided to leave a little gap between the end of this diegetic sound and the music track, as a signal for the beginning of the song - like in the cinema when the lights turn down, and people understand it as a sign to start tuning in and turning off their phones :)

I specifically chose a section where you could hear a lot of birds singing, instead of just white noise, since they have established a reputation for being in the woods:)) as it’s easier for people to realise the nature of the setting when this sound is associated with it.

IDEA: Ever since production started, I’ve always nurtured a vision of a vintage-looking sequence for the outro of the music video. The nostalgic theme is what I believed would be the way to tie it all together nicely, not just for the final product, but also for all the memories I made with my friends who were kind enough to help out with the project and the fun we had together!

During production, I asked Kelly (the production day 3 behind-the-scenes videographer) to use a specific camera for some behind-the-scenes shots: a Canon Powershot A3300 IS.

I found that the vintage quality of this camera comes from its older CCD sensor and natural digital compression, which together create a soft, slightly imperfect image, which, ironically, makes it perfect:) The footage appears less sharp, with subtle motion blur, slight color consistencies, and lots of noise, giving the visuals a dreamy, intimate, and unpolished feel.

Here are the assembled shots for this section; I also made sure that the fade-in effects on both sound and image are aligned with each other to keep up with the coordination:

To play into the nostalgic aesthetic even further, I created retro borders to make the vibe convincing.
